The Makerspace in the Xavier University McDonald Library is a unique space for both fun and learning.

In that spirit, we've developed student learning outcomes for the space and the activities that occur there. Whether you're stopping in for a personal project or meeting your class here for an instruction session, our goal is for you to to have a meaningful and creative experience!

Creative Problem Solving & Technological Literacy

Students will develop critical and creative thinking skills to identify and solve problems using a variety of tools and technologies. They will learn to design, prototype, and produce innovative solutions within the Makerspace. Students will strive for excellence, leveraging these technologies ethically to create innovative solutions with social impact.

Students will enhance their teamwork and communication abilities by working on collaborative projects. They will learn to effectively express ideas, share responsibilities, and work together towards common goals.

Adaptability & Resilience

Students will learn to embrace uncertainty and navigate through challenges and setbacks encountered during the making process. They will develop flexibility, problem-solving, and resilience skills that are valuable in a rapidly changing world.

Experiential Learning & Creative Expression

They will learn to assess feasibility, refine ideas, and consider sustainability aspects of their creations. By combining technical and creative applications, they will learn to explore their artistic side, integrating aesthetics with functionality rooted in design thinking.

Ethical & Responsible Making

Students will understand the ethical considerations and responsibilities associated with making and sharing their creations.
