How to Update Links to Library Resources

Check and update links to library resources after our system change, June 2025

Update Links to Library Resources

Many links to library resources are changing as the library migrates to a new system in June 2025. These changes will occur throughout the summer fall semesters and will affect many links to library resources anywhere you have saved links, such as in your Canvas courses, course materials, webpages, etc.

You will need to update links to the library catalogs Search@XU and XPLORE, as these sites will be discontinued and the links will break in August and September.

This guide will show you how to identify and update these links. Please contact with questions.

Instructions

How to Check and Update Links:

See a visual flowchart of this decision process at the bottom of this page.

1. Open the link by clicking on the hyperlink, copying and pasting it into your internet address bar, or typing it into your internet address bar. If prompted, log into your Xavier account with your Xavier email address and password.

  • If the link doesn't work or routes to the wrong resource: Update the link. Go to #2 for instructions.
  • If the link routes to the correct resource:
    • Check if the website is for Search@XU or XPLORE:

Method 1: Look for the Search@XU or XPLORE icon in the top left corner of the webpage

A screenshot of the words Search@XU sin the top-left corner of Search@XU webpages

Method 2: Check the website URL. Search@XU and XPLORE links typically start with:

  •  If you see Search@XU or XPLORE: Update the link. Go to #2 for instructions.
  • If you do not see Search@XU or XPLORE: You can keep using this link! No action needed.

2. Update the link:

  • Search for your resource: Type the title (or other information) into the search bar. Click the magnifying glass or press Enter on your keyboard to start the search.

  • Find your resource and click on the title. If you aren't sure which resource is the right one, click on the title to find more information.
    • Online resources that you can access have the words Online Access below the title.
    • Physical resources in the Xavier Library have the words Available at Xavier McDonald Library below the title.
    • OhioLINK books have the words Get this for me from other libraries below the title.

  • Online resources only: Test the online access: Click one of the links under Online Access to check that you can access the resource.

  • Find and copy the permalink: Click on Permalink. Copy the permalink by clicking Copy the Permalink to Clipboard or by your preferred copying method.

3. You can now add the permalink to Canvas or other course materials.

No. We will retain service to all of our EBSCO databases, so these links will not be affected. The ONLY EBSCO links that are affected are Search@XU links.
